Our
second child, Ethan Wayne, was born on Friday February the 9th
at 8:09am at KCH
(Kosciusko community Hospital) in Warsaw
Indiana. He weighted in at 8 lbs. 4 oz. and was 21 ½ inches long. Irish had him
via Cesarean section.
When our first
child, Lonnie Jr., was born she was in labor for 36 hours before an emergency
c-section. She was just too small. This time the c-section was scheduled a week
or so ahead of time so things want much smoother. Not only was the surprise of
an emergency c-section gone but more importantly, Irish wasn’t totally
exhausted from being in labor.

I
was standing next to Irish’s left shoulder when I took this picture. Ethan had
just pulled out at this point. He is still attached to the umbilical cord. You
can see part of the cord on Irish’s tummy. You can also see Ethan’s left arm
and cheek and the bottom of his left foot in this picture. The person on the
left is Dr. Negreros, our family doctor, assisting Dr. Ryser, the obstetric
doctor.

This
picture was taken just after the cord was cut. At this point a nurse came to us
with four locking bracelets with matching serial numbers attached to a card.
They put one bracelet on Irish, one on me and two on Ethan. One bracelet went on
his right leg and the other on his left arm. After that the umbilical cord was
clamped. Attached to the clamp was an electronic device that would sound an
alarm if the baby was taken out of the birthing center of the hospital and would
lock the exit doors if you got too close to a hospital exit with a baby.
